Apply for Membership
ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation is a non-profit 501c3, women-run artists’ cooperative gallery dedicated to providing alternative solo show exhibition opportunities for innovative artists outside the commercial gallery system. Since 1973 ARC has given exposure and support to artists, providing an atmosphere for the continued development of artistic potential and experimentation. Visual artists of all disciplines, backgrounds and ages are encouraged to apply. Artists must be in the Chicagoland area and committed to participation in regularly scheduled in-person activities to be in active membership. Artists will be selected by the ARC cooperative based on the quality of their work, alignment with the mission of the cooperative, and commitment to their artistic practice.
Benefits
- Members become part of the rich history of our female-led artistic cooperative.
- Members enjoy ample opportunity to exchange ideas, techniques and resources with other working artists.
- Members are part of the voting body of the cooperative group and therefore are integral in its day-to day workings. Members work together to curate exhibition layouts, collectively decide contest winners, and have an active voice in deciding changes in the direction of the gallery, all within the context of the Chicago art world.
- Each member will be eligible to receive their own solo show after every 2 consecutive years of active service within the cooperative.
- Members participate in an annual member group exhibition once a year.
- Members participate in any scheduled exchange exhibitions with other cooperatives throughout the US and abroad during their active membership period.
- Each member is represented with a full page of their artwork, artists statement, and links to website or socials on the ARC website.
- Members will automatically be included in ARC’s 50+ years of archives now being housed at the Ryerson Library at the Art Institute of Chicago for future scholarly research and education.
- ARC takes no commission on work sold from members, therefore members receive the full requested value of any of their work sold.
- ARC members may enter group shows, always juried by a non-member artist or curator, free of charge.
