Shelley Gilchrist

Show ran from 6/1/2014 to 6/21/2014

Join us for our Opening: Friday, May 30 from 6-9 pm

In her exhibition, Roam, Shelley Gilchrist presents new paintings and a wall sculpture inspired by her recent artist residency in Rome. The city's curved streets, piazzas, hills, domes and umbrella pines resonate with the artist, whose organic style abounds with curvilinear motifs. In a seventeen-piece installation of acrylic paintings, she traces her daily walks in the city and adds linear riffs and variations of those paths. These reflect a visitor's inescapable awareness of the millions who have trod similar passages for centuries, through Rome's layers of history. In addition, the exhibit includes sculptural encaustic paintings that have sea and landscape elements.
