"Checklist for an Exodus," mixed media constructions
Sharon Gilmore constructed sculptures using found organic and man-made objects. "As often happens", the artist states, "the objects themselves inspired the initial ideas for the pieces. Through manipulating, altering, and adding additional objects, the sculptures gradually emerged. The sculptures suggest archetypal or mythical animals and things - birds, trees, flowers, tools - forms we recognize but which seem to come from another time, either past or future. This ambiguity allows us to address the questions both from experience and with foresight.""The sculptures suggest archetypal or mythical animals and things - birds, trees, flowers, tools - forms we recognize but which seem to come from another time, either past or future. This ambiguity allows us to address the questions both from experience and with foresight. The sculptures exhibit a certain vulnerability in their fragility and awkwardness by incorporating devices such as splints, crutches, and wheels - things commonly used to aid or support someone in motion."
