In Hall's words, "benign objects like flowers, mushrooms, and children's toys act as symbols of wartime destruction, spiritual mystery, and sexuality." For the artist, his large paintings are "dreamscapes," and painting in general is a "rich metaphor for questioning the nature of being human and having skin."
