Classic Chicago: The Art Of Architecture is a hyperrealist graphite portfolio of master drawings of Chicago's classic architecture, sculpture, and ornamental detail which was inspired by history's great representationalists - Leonardo da Vinci; Albrecht Dürer; Johannes Vermeer; the 18th century Italian illustrator and printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi; the French engravers of the beautiful multi-volume antiquities Description de l'Egypte; the imaginative mid 19th century École des Beaux-Arts watercolor and gouache reconstruction artists of ancient Roman and Greek temples; and John James Audubon.
As a life's raison d'être, Jack Nixon has produced an uncompromising oeuvre of Chicago's Neoclassic, Gothic Revival, and Art Deco architecture that will rival the golden era of etchings and engravings of ancient Rome, Athens, and Saqqara. With a unique vision and the expressive and technical power to convey that illustrative vision to the general public, seducing viewers in a panoply of splendid, rich detail, Nixon has given his native city a special portrait of its downtown environment that will never be surpassed.
