Iris Goldstein is a Chicago-based artist who has worked in various sculpture formats. Her work with plaster and other hardware-store materials allows her a freedom of expression that belies the humdrum nature of her sculptural tools.
Goldstein's latest mixed-media constructions, Bits and Pieces 2016,
examine the possibility of using discarded packing materials to create new ways of looking at things that have been thrown away after doing the job for which they were created. Goldstein uses plaster, aluminum screen and acrylic paint to transform these discards into small wall sculptures that lead viewers into a myriad of suggested meanings. She points the viewer away from these machine-made objects to fanciful and subjective narratives.
