Helen Ziga
Show ran from 7/4/2000 to 7/29/2000
Smarten Up, mixed media
The focus of this show is the glamorized object and its relationship to the function and conventions of beauty and the customary language surrounding the description of a beautiful object-whether the object be a photograph, a painting, a vase, etc. Is a work of art such as a painting more beautiful than a paper fan? How does beauty affect our impression of the worth of an object? If an object is made even more beautiful than it was in its original state, does it become more valuable or do its other qualities take precedence?
