Pauline Kochanski

Pauline Kochanski received a BA from Columbia College Chicago (with a focus on photography) and an MA from De Paul University and continued her art studies at the School of the Art Institute Chicago in drawing and painting (non-degree) and at other educational institutions.

For over 30 years she focused her artistic practice on black and white photography; though continuing to draw.  Ms. Kochanski has been concentrating on drawing and exploration of line for the past year along with her photography.

Ms. Kochanski has exhibited in juried and invitational shows internationally, nationally and in the Chicago area as well as having been a featured artist during the 2003 Chicago Artists Month.  She received numerous awards and recognitions for her photographic work from Best of Show, first place and honorable mentions to receiving Illinois Arts Council Grants.

As part of Ms. Kochanski’s creative endeavors she has curated and juried numerous exhibitions at various locations including Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the Chicago Cultural Center and other galleries and venues.  In keeping with her goals of expanding her artistic outreach she moved into The Bloomingdale Arts Building a community of live-work homes for artists and arts activists.  She is a board member of ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation as well as a member of the Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art, a member of the National Association of Women Artists and the American Jewish Artists Club.

ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation

ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit gallery and foundation whose mission is to bring innovative, emerging and/or experimental visual art to a wide range of viewers, and to provide a nurturing atmosphere for the continued development of artistic potential and dialogue. As a non-profit cooperative operated by a collective of femInist artists since 1973, ARC works to empower women by providing professional and mentoring opportunities in the visual arts. ARC serves to raise public awareness on various community-based issues by presenting exhibits, workshops, discussion groups and programs by, and for, underserved populations.
