NIU MFA Exhibition
"Cream of the Crop" Opening Fri. Mar. 31, 6-9pm
Cream of the Crop is an accumulation of three years of focus within the masters of fine art program at Northern Illinois University, featuring seven MFA candidates. While all artists within this exhibition have spent an amount of time living in and around the rural cornfields that define a Midwestern landscape, each approaches art-making in varying media, materials, and conceptual themes, as they relate to our most immediate cultural hub—Chicago, and the larger art world as a whole. The work in this exhibition ranges from an investigation of the land from a feminine perspective to what it means to be a painter in the 21st century to questioning the cost of modernity, and various themes in between. All of these various themes and works are the byproducts of three years of research, questioning, soul-searching, and intuition that the MFA program provides and encourages.
Opening: Friday March 31 from 6-9pm
Exhibition dates: March 29 - April 22, 2017
Gallery hours: Thurs-Sat 12-6pm Sunday 12-4pm
