ARC All Members' Show 2008

Show ran from 10/1/2008 to 11/1/2008

"Does It Matter?"

OPENING RECEPTION:  Friday, October 3, 6-9 pm

When this year's theme for Chicago Artists' Month was announced as "Artists and Issues That Matter," ARC opted to address the obvious, yet controversial, question: "Does It Matter?" in their annual All-Members' Show.   The artwork exhibited in "Does It Matter?" explores how and why our individual art-making process matters (be it:  to us or to others, socially, politically, morally, globally, personally...).  Each member created a new work for this theme with an accompanying statement about why the work "matters."  This is an opportunity for reflection, not only on our personal practice, but also in relation to our immediate artistic community. For added critical interaction, we pose the same question to the audience/viewer, encouraging and displaying a dialogue about the value of art now.  Through many levels of subjectivity, all are able to discuss what does matter, creating an artistic process that allows and promotes this crucial conversation. image by Nancy BechtolParticipating artists include:  Kina Bagovska, Kayce Bayer, Nancy Bechtol, Rine Boyer, Nancy Charak, Esther Charbit, Laura Cloud, Brooke Demos, Kathleen Dugan, Linda Sorkin Eisenberg, Nancy Fritz, Anne Farley Gaines, Iris Goldstein,  Jooyeon Lee, Pamela Louik, Mary Maughelli, Renee McGinnis, Mary Min, Lynnette Mohill, Ruti Modlin, Cheri Reif Naselli, Patricia Otto, Civia Rosenberg, Judith Roth, Cherie Sampson, Charlotte Segal, Jane Stevens, Michele Stutts, Laurie Sucher, Ralitza Vladimirova, Chieyko Yuki and Amy Zucker.  To see more of ARC members' artwork on their individual web pages, click on Artists Members.
