AFFILIATE: Brooke DEMOS

Brooke began her membership with ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation in 2005, but has recently moved to New York City and is now an Affiliate Member, participating in the annual Members' Show and other activities.  Her work focuses strictly on the re-use of post consumer plastic shopping bags, mainly because of the free and abundant supply of them and more technically for their flexibility as a fiber material.  She has explored knotting, braiding, wrapping, roping and weaving the material.  Her favorite process is weaving the bags into fabric made of 100% recycled plastic.  She is strongly drawn to the transformation of this seemingly valueless and environmentally unfriendly waste product of consumerism into aesthetically pleasing, functional and sometimes critical art objects.
